After graduating with a BFA in Painting from Michigan State University, Graham worked for 5 years as a Graphic Artist at the University of Michigan Medical Illustration Department where he was introduced to medical art by Jerry Hodge, one of the masters in the field.

In 1980, after a short stint at General Motors Photographic, Graham moved to Chicago and founded Graham Studios specializing in medical and technical illustration.
